Eco Council

At Heath Primary School, our Eco Council is a group of pupils who work together to make our school and wider community more environmentally friendly. They meet regularly to share ideas, plan projects, and take action on environmental issues that matter to our school community. Eco Council activities help everyone learn about sustainability and become responsible global citizens.

Heath are proud members of the Eco-Schools programme and have been recognised with a Distinction Award, which we have held since 2021.

Our Ethos and Beliefs

At the heart of our Eco Council is a commitment to protecting the planet and fostering environmental awareness throughout our school. We believe in:

  • Taking responsibility for our environment by reducing waste, saving energy, and caring for wildlife.

  • Encouraging the whole school community - pupils, staff, families, and visitors - to make sustainable choices every day.

  • Learning by doing: putting knowledge into action through practical projects and activities.

  • Promoting kindness towards people and nature so that everyone feels inspired to make a positive difference.

Our Achievements and Awards

  • Eco-School with Distinction since 2022
  • Suffolk's Greenest Primary School, 2024
  • Suffolk's first 'Plastic Clever School'
  • Suffolk County Council's 'Clear Air Day' 2022 competition winners

“Heath Primary School has delivered an incredibly broad range of environmental activities, from introducing energy monitors and wildlife ambassadors, to being awarded the first ‘Plastic Clever School’ in Suffolk and working with the local community in several areas. The judges all agreed that Heath Primary has a really strong pupil action focus and curriculum design, very inspiring. Well done!”

Our Eco Council has been involved in a range of exciting and impactful initiatives, including:

  • Awards and recognition for environmental excellence, highlighting our commitment to sustainability.

  • Environmental projects that bring the school community together to protect nature and reduce waste.
